I'm sorry but such organised tours are just not my 'cup of tea'. My wife and I are really slow travellers. I often have problems to keep up with a guide in a single museum and go back for more after the tour has finished. I also think one needs quiet time to digest the impressions gathered during the day.
The capitol building in Albany sounds like a very interesting place I didn't know much about. They were rather patient to have sacked the architect so late, considering he overshot the budget by over 600% - that must have been obvious much earlier. It sounds like they got their money worth in outstanding craftsmanship...

Hi, Wendy. When I read Great Canadian Bus Trip, I pictured a trip from coast to coast, and thought are these people mad! :) I worked in both Montreal and Quebec City for years. They are fantastic destinations. If I were going, I would book a hotel in downtown Montreal and take the subway to all of the sites. It is super easy to get around. In Quebec City, I would stay in the old quarter. I have stayed at the Frontenac many times and always love the ambiance. Now that I am paying for my hotels that probably won't happen again. However, there are lots of small hotels in the old city and just outside the walls. The areas most people want to see are very walkable. If I wanted to go outside those areas, I would either grab a taxi to a particular location or maybe take a one-day bus tour.

Quebec City and Montreal are indeed two wonderful Canadian destinations to visit. Quebec is a large province with so many things to see, and it offers the extra bonus of being so multi-cultural!

Like you, Wendy, we much prefer independent travel and, while the research and planning a trip's details can be time-consuming, they're part of the built-in fun of anticipating a journey. Like your friends, I would have wanted to visit some museums and could have definitely skipped the casino and outlets. That said, the idea of someone else driving would be a definite plus and some of the places the tour visited looked interesting. All-in-all, a bus tour is another travel option to think about .

Martine, I understand there are other Canada Bus trips by Starr, but I am not sure any include museums. One includes the Jazz festival, if your daughter likes Jazz. All the Best, Wendy

Hi Wendy! I found this very interesting as I would like to go up to Canada, but I don't want to drive. I have been there before but would like to take my teenage daughter... I am not sure if it would be boring to her this way. I think she wold like museums over churches. I will think about it. Thanks for your article and I hope to see you at the pool this summer!
